Los Angeles District Attorney's Office
Elder Abuse Unit
MDT Member

The Elder Abuse Unit can be reached at:
(213) 974-3783.

The Los Angeles District Attorney has created a special Elder Abuse Unit with a staff specially trained and dedicated to prosecuting crimes against the elderly. These specially trained attorneys vertically prosecute elder abuse cases, which means that one deputy district attorney handles a case from beginning to end. Michael Gargiulo is the Deputy District Attorney in charge of the Elder Abuse Unit.

Crimes of Elder Abuse and Neglect should be initially reported to a police agency, Adult Protective Services or the Ombudsman's Office. A chart describing  how to file a police report and the reporting guidelines can be found in our Crime page.

The District Attorney's Elder Abuse Unit prosecutes felonies in the County of Los Angeles along with some misdemeanors.
In the City of Los Angeles, misdemeanors are prosecuted by the City Attorney's Office

The Los Angeles District Attorney's Web site can be reached at
http://da.co.la.ca.us/seniors/ . The site provides information about the Elder Abuse Unit and crime prevention information on a variety of crimes targeting seniors.
