People Coordinated Services (PCS) Multipurpose Center serves people 60 years of age and older, who reside in the southwestern area of Los Angeles. The PCS service area include the Eighth Councilmanic District, the Crenshaw Baldwin Hills area, and other neighboring communities.

The philosophy of the center is that seniors should have a single place to go to receive a variety of services.

PCS is partially funded by the Los Angeles City Department of Aging and the Los Angeles County Area Agency on Aging. up arrow to top of page

Nutrition - Hot Well-Balanced Meals

A hot well-balanced meal, as well as other nutrition, are provided for seniors 60 years of age or older who participate in the PCS nutrition program.

Congregate nutrition services are provided five days a week, at six sites, located in the southwestern area of Los Angeles. This area includes the following communities:

Home delivered meals are provided to regular participants, who are unable to attend the congregate site due to illness.

Nutrition and related supportive services include:

Nutrition education
Nutrition counseling
Transportation and escort of seniors to nutrition sites

Health Services

Our health services include health screenings such as blood pressure checks, cholesterol levels, blood sugar levels and foot exams by nurses, podiatrists, and other professionals. Call for more information. up arrow to top of page

Transportation

We provide transportation for seniors to participate in services at our centers and for special appointments.

Escort service is provided by having a companion to accompany seniors on trips such as to their doctor, shopping and banking. up arrow to top of page

Community Services

This includes meaningful classes, sewing, knitting, and exercise as well as other creative, social, educational, physical, psychological and economical activities. up arrow to top of page

Consumer Services

We provide assistance with completing forms such as renter's rebate and tax preparation forms. up arrow to top of page

Special Events & Recreational Trips

A full range of special programs and recreational trips are provided throughout the year to meet the needs of seniors. these activities are designed to keep seniors active, healthy and involved. Seniors are challenged mentally and physically to enable them to continue to enjoy life in their later years. up arrow to top of page

Outreach Services

Telephone Reassurance
Volunteers call homebound seniors regularly to comfort them. We also call to keep in touch and to find out how they are doing. you can assist this group as a volunteer.

Visiting
Volunteers visit seniors in their home or convalescent home to reassure and comfort them. up arrow to top of page

Case Management

The case management program provides comprehensive social services to the at risk elderly and disabled population in the southwestern area of Los Angeles.

The program seeks to assist the elderly population in maintaining independent living and to coordinate services which enable clients to remain in their community environment.

Trained case workers assist with filing applications for financial and social services.

Information and Referral
Includes giving information about resources, programs, activities and services that are available and convenient. We make arrangements and appointments to link seniors with services we do not provide at the Multipurpose Center. up arrow to top of page

Adult Day Care

Our adult day care center is licensed to care for seniors who are diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease or Dementia, as well as Stroke survivors and the frail elderly.

The Alzheimer's and Dementia Social Day Care Program and Resource Center is located at:

We provide direct supervision and a care plan to maintain current level of functioning and delay institutionalization. Trained staff assist with activities of daily living. We arrange and provide organized social, cultural, and recreational activities.

bulletSocial activities
bulletArts and crafts
bulletIndependent living skills, training and counseling
bulletLunch and 2 snacks
bulletObservation and care planning

Caregivers are encouraged to become involved in bi-weekly support groups, advisory committee and care planning for their loved ones.

Program costs

All fees are based on a sliding fee scale. A self-declaration of income is required.

The goals of the program are:

bulletTo encourage the victim of  Alzheimer's or related dementias to socialize with a peer group that is free from demands and pressures while allowing them to remain as independent as possible;
bulletTo provide primary caregivers with much needed respite from the taxing demands of caring for their loved one;
bulletTo offer support, education and peer recognition to the caregiver and the community.

Caregiver Support

Those who have the responsibility of caring for a senior are welcomed to attend our support, educational, and discussion groups. We provide referral to community organizations and have a resource library with helpful books and pamphlets. up arrow to top of page
